Not only are the W.A.R. Lords prominent figures in the high school robotics community, but we make an impact in other communities as well. To promote this, we have provided more service opportunities than ever, partnering with organizations such as the San Diego River Park Foundation to preserve the native San Diego marsh habitats, and Project Mercy to build houses in Mexico for families in need. Since August of 2015, the W.A.R. Lords have amassed a total of 1,169 hours of community service. This December, we held our very first Hackathon, HackToTheFuture, for high school students from around Southern California to come together and make computer programs aligning with the theme of “education for the modern world”. Over 40 students participated in the event this year. Thanks to the support from MakerPlace and Environmental Lights, the winning teams went home with amazing prizes.
