A common misconception of STEM students is that sports are not our strong-suit, and that we are a group of geeky, science-obsessed, robot-loving teens, and only that. However, our W.A.R. Lords students prove they are more than a stereotype through their various athletic endeavors. From cheer to sailing, W.A.R. Lords students excel in a variety of sports. When she’s not being our Business and Community outreach VP and a strong build lead, Olia, a junior, is one of the Francis Parker Tennis Team’s most successful members. During the fall tennis season, Olia trained hard to win the Coastal League doubles title for the 3rd year in a row, and make it to the quarterfinals San Diego Section CIF Individuals for the 3rd time. Outside of school tennis, Olia plays high level tournaments, and her tennis team won the USTA JTT National Championship. On the Francis Parker Tennis team, Olia practices tennis alongside one of our co-presidents, Mary, and a freshman W.A.R. Lord, Amanda. Our other Business and Community outreach VP, Caroline , a junior, captains the cheer team during the fall, and has earned tri-varsity status by performing at the highest level in track and field and soccer, in addition to cheer. She has competed in the Coastal League Championship for Track and Field in long jump, triple jump, and the 4×400 relay. Jeremy, a sophomore, juggles sailing year round with being an instrumental part in the team’s strategy and software departments. He even sailed varsity in his freshman year, and has been joined by three other W.A.R. Lords, Sahana, Liam and Allison , in sailing. These are just a handful of the student athletes on our team. While being a W.A.R. Lord can be time consuming, our students still manage to thrive in other areas.
